Thanks for the replies, very encouraging. Taking inventory and doing some serious self examining are healthy in my opinion. Those things are what form and help us all count the cost. I suppose the best answer to many questions is to find the will of God for our lives and simply do it.

Some things are deep, while others are plainly seen in the shallows. It is obvious we should be charitable, patient, kind. What has to be seen with the unseen eye is the overall deeper purpose and meaning for each one of our lives....earnestly seeking and working out our own salvation.

Closer to Christ, I pray.
For what it's worth, my first step was to
toss everything I had been taught; not
because of error, but because it did not come from experience-
-it was essentially book-knowledge about the Holy Spirit,
which I found was better gained in interacting with...undesirables, hmm.
