Maybe because they've been abused? It would be easy to get bitter about that. As a matter of fact, maybe it's partly necessary for healing. A person works THROUGH pain. To hear OP's tell it, you have to forgive and forget even before the pain registers. What that does is forces the person into denial, rather than being able to pull it out, look at it and deal with it. Bitterness is very often a code word for "That person didn't do what we wanted them to so we will cast them away from us with false accusations so we don't have to deal with the reality of the situation."
