There were things that the Bush Administration kept Powell in the dark on.

Minus the Libya tragedy, I don't see where anything has been mishandled.
The African guy that said so much about Hussein and what he had, and his plans, etc was lying and Cheney had been told that he was not a good source. Cheney withheld that information from most involved in the Iraq War decision-making process.
Since the Iraq War, Powell has been anything but gung-ho for anyone connected to the Iraq War "back-room" decision makers.
