My sewing days are over. I just use my machine for mending now. I'd rather buy it.

I do a little of both! Well, a lot of buying, but a little sewing still.

I am going to make my DIL a zebra valance for one of her rooms. I bought some really nice drapery fabric. I bought her some lined white and black silky panels for Christmas - two of each. She can exchange one of the colors if she doesn't like the two-toned effect. Couldn't find any quality valances, so that is when you have to make them yourself. I got the material on sale as well, so that was a plus. You know how high drapery fabric can get.

Sounds great!

Yes, the price is outrageous - - that's why it's almost cheaper to buy things than sew anymore.

And the quality of fabric is nothing like what used to be offered. That really ticks me off.

So, I haven't started the project. Should I do a balloon valance or just a regular valance with a little bit of a ruffle at the top - one inch, so it won't looking boring. I don't think a two-inch ruffle would suit the silky panels.

I think I'd go with the regular valance. I like the idea of the two colors of panels. Should look really cool!

Okay, I was visualizing that. So, small ruffle above the rod - one inch?

Yes, the panels were on sale for $35.00 each and they are really pretty. I don't do the black and white theme - especially zebra, but if I did, I would have kept them!

There's always the option of no ruffle - - - I've done a few like that and if the material is thicker, it will look good. I think I'd still do 2" if you do a ruffle.

Man, I don't know if I could do that without some type of ruffle at the top. I have some in my dining room and I don't like them at all.

My kitchen valances have a 1-inch ruffle. Bathroom valance - two inch. Man, the panels are more elegant, wouldn't the larger ruffle throw that look off? I guess she wouldn't care, really. I'll probably make the decision when I get to that part of the curtain.
