Re: Modesty Myth

Of course, Christian men need to always be classy.

I dont think women are ignorant of their motives when dressing to be sexy. They dressing to appeal to what men consider sexy.

Men can cover themselves completely and look perfectly fine, while women are expected to show skin if they are to be fashionable or attractive. Ergo, some women are going to be crossing the sexy line in an attempt to look "pretty" (as the secular world presents it).

Because it IS a complicated issue, it's best to avoid judging motives by appearance only and be respectful to everyone. Sometimes motives are made obvious, but even when they are, the correct response from a Christian man is one of respectful, gentlemanly behavior.

If men would simply be respectful to women in general and stop trying to visually separate the ladies from the tramps, pardon my French, it would solve a lot of problems. For the Christian man, there is no need to decide who's a lady and who's not; be respectful to other people--period. It should take quite the burden off a man's shoulders to find that he doesn't need to size women up based on what they're wearing and treat them differently because of it. Hold the door open for the woman who looks like a streetwalker just as quickly as you would hold the door for a woman in a modest dress. Be as courteous to the teenage girl in the halter top and cheeky shorts as you would to your own wife or daughter.

I'm not at all in favor of alleviating female responsibility. However, it is a pointless endeavor on the part of a Christian man to go around differentiating between ladies and the...unladylike. What's the point of that? Be a Christian to all women. If women behaved the way some men do, they would be modest only in the presence of the gentlemen and dress and act immodestly in the presence of lascivious men. That makes zero sense when you reverse it, yet men do this a LOT. They will be gentlemen in the presence of modest, ladylike ladies, but excuse themselves to behave coarsely and disrespectfully if a woman isn't perceived as being ladylike. It's as if when a woman is immodest they feel it also excuses them to be immodest in the way they think, speak and act.
Excellent response.

This is what men think. But they are often wrong about this. Miss Brat is right on target when she says women are taught that sexy is pretty. Women want to be pretty. This is why women get offended when men treat them as if they are trying to dress sexy when they are trying to be pretty, even if things are hanging out.

We've heard comments from Mexican, Christian men who have said that in their culture, the men want the women to dress to appear sexy. That they put a lot of pressure on their women. I've seen a lot of Mexican women, in church, struggle with this. And, of course, I know some very godly Mexican families.

That doesn't exclude women of any race, of course. But, in the Mexican culture, it seems to be more of a problem.

She'd have to be pretty dumb to be offended if that is the case for her attire.

It's kind of hard to think we could solve this problem as we are all guided by our natural five senses - hearing, sight, smell, touch, and touch.

I saw a young man sacking groceries last week. A young women, wearing shorts, was at the next register and had her basket loaded. The sacker finished, very quickly, with the person at his register and made his way to the women with the shorts, saying, "Would you like some help out with this?" LOL!

I'm not sure men will stop wetting on themselves like little puppies. Is that even possible?

But, yes, I can agree that Christian men should be gentlemanly to all women. Not sure his little heart won't pitter patter between the two choices.

Disagree to a degree. I have spent last 18 years working with mostly women, sometimes the only man on the floor.(nurse). They know why they wear tight behind huggin clothes or show the cleavage. You think they do because women find it sexy?

Re: Modesty Myth

Sometimes you hear women say men are dogs as if women have no play in it. The more I observe women, they just as doggish(not sure thats a real word).

Bottom line: all have sinned, all have sinful nature, all have a play in the problem.
