Re: Favorite Movie of All Time

I've enjoyed this thread tremendously!!! I saw a couple of my own all-time-favorites show up on other people's lists. Guess we're not that different after all, huh?

My list in no particular order is:

1. Ten Commandments (I know it's not biblically accurate, but I still love it!)
2. Fallen (with John Goodman and Denzel Washington)
3. Cast Away, Sleepless in Seattle & You've Got Mail (Love Tom Hanks in almost anything)
4. Ever After & Love and Basketball (I'm a Hopeless Romantic)
5. A Bronx Tale & Goodfellas - love a good mob movie)
6. Rocky I, II, III and IV (I am orignaly from Philly, been around boxing the first half of my life)
7. Pillow Talk (and most other Doris Day movies of that era)
8. The Last Samari and Memoirs of a Geisha (other cultures interest me)
9. Alfred Hitchcock Fillintheblank (old horror movies or no horror movies at all)
10. Back to the Future 1 and 2 (Who doesn't like those I'm going back into the past to fix the future movies?)
11. Schindlers List, Florence Nightingale (1985), Mississippi Burning (love just about anything historical if it's done well)

Thanks to this thread I have a list of new-to-me movies I'm looking forward to watching in the near future. The Courageous Heart of Irene Sendler is at the TOP of that list!

Re: Favorite Movie of All Time

The Ten Commandments is number one to me. I was living with three other hippies in Louisville in 1972. We lived across the street from the drive in so one night for nothing better to do we went and saw this movie. It knocked us out so much we went back and saw it again the next night.

Return To Lonesome Dove

The Odessa File

I probably already posted in this thread dont have time to check all the way through it.

There is a movie from 1956 that you might enjoy. It stars Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire and is titled "Friendly Persuasion".

It is set in the civil war era and is about a family where the mother is a Quaker who is a pacifist and the dad is not but absolutely loves his wife so puts up with everything that came along with being a strict Quaker.

It is a heartwarming and funny film that is suitable for anybody to see (as far as I can recall). Even conservative UPCer's and other conservatives would probably enjoy it.

This film is out on DVD and is just $7.99 at Amazon. If you are an Amazon Prime member you can watch if for free online as part of Prime's free instant videos.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Favorite Movie of All Time

Well since I missed this thread on its first or second or third go-around, and a spammer has opened it up again... I'll finally get myself on this bandwagon ....

Not a huge movie watcher myself, just like Renee, I find few movies that are worth watching.

There is one movie that I could watch over and over is Anne of Green Gables. That one probably is my favorite. It makes me laugh and cry. Awesome family movie. And I am kind of partial to PEI too...

Can't think of any more favorites off the top of my head.... although recently our family has been watching autobiographical or historical movies about different missionaries, and servants of God throughout history. Last week we watched a movie about William Carey, and it was really good. We also watched one on Amy Carmichael and the work she did in India. Both of these two missionaries really changed history in India for the better.

In our home, we would rather watch something that encourages and teaches our family, rather than tear down the values we have tried to build in our children.
