I've known quite a few ministers with tattoos left over from the service and other odd reasons...and I've never known the organization to ask them to have them removed before they could hold license or pastor....(granted, this guy is much more extreme than a ship anchor and "mama"...LOL!!!)
I think that in order to overcome preconceived ideas, and set parents at ease, he would have to clarify that it was pre-conversion in some way, every time he spoke to a new audience. JMO. Otherwise folks would be put off, and wondering if he's advocating body art to their kids.
I really don't think surgery is the way to go, though. It can leave scarring that is just as disfiguring as the tattoos, especially if the tattoos cover so much of an area.
