Re: PLEASE HELP...serious question!

I would keep it, just as a token of special thoughts and prayers from your daughter.

Keep this cloth and put it away in your drawer as others have mentioned. I have a cloth my pastor annointed years ago and it is still in my drawer. Have been in MANY services b4 when someone brings up a piece of cloth or something else they want prayed over to give to the person they are praying for!

Having recently moved, I was cleaning tonight, and came across a 'Prayer Cloth' that my daughter had mailed to me last year, when she was concerned because I no longer attend a UPCI church. (she did, at the time, she now attends a real conservative church) Now, I don't want to open up a discussion about the right/wrong of Prayer Cloths...BUT, I started to toss it in the trash, and was immediately concerned about tossing it out like last week's leftovers. This emotion took me by surprise, and led to THIS post. I need to know what to do with this cloth??? Would it be irreverant of me to toss it out? Should I just put it in my Bible and keep it? Store in a drawer? And the biggest question of all- in MY opinion- WHY AM I FEELING EMOTIONAL OVER AN OLD WHITE PIECE OF CLOTH??

Thanks, everyone who responds...I'm obviously being menopausal. Right??
My first thought was to suggest you buy a can of pledge and get your furniture polished!

However you said it was a serious question so I will give it a serious answer;

1. There is no lingering "annointing" or some such thing that has now made the cloth sacred. It was something used to convey prayer and once that was done it is just a cloth.

2. However if there is an emotional attachment to it for some reason there would be nothing wrong with keeping it as a keepsake.

3. If there is no emotional attachment to it I think there is absolutely no issue with disposing of it or using it for something else. As Christians we are not like Roman Catholics who worship objects like crosses, statues, relics, etc. We can appreciate them but that is it.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: PLEASE HELP...serious question!

Go see what this guy would offer you for it!

Seriously though, if you haven't already done so, thank your daughter and tell her you always appreciate her prayers, and hang onto it.
(The 'Old man' would probably only give you a buck or two anyways.)

CC1, #3 is my 'Catch 22' I think. I was raised in a very conservative apostolic preacher's home. He believed as you in the respect that we are NOT as the Catholic Church, in that we hold THINGS/SYMBOLS/OBJECTS as things to revere, or worship. My daddy actually didn't even believe in the practice of praying over objects for others, or for 'standin in' for another in a prayer line, etc. For these reasons, I believe this whole emotional battle was birthed

I agree with these posts. You aren't throwing away God's anointing if you get rid of the cloth, but if you have emotions invested in the object, it's perfectly alright to keep it for sentimental purposes.

Re: PLEASE HELP...serious question!

It would be cold hearted to throw away something with an emotional attachment.

Re: PLEASE HELP...serious question!

If you weren't so bitter you would be funny. There are times when an object fulfills its purpose and becomes an idol. Hezekiah had to destroy the brazen serpant Moses created because it became an idol to a person. It would be a nice gesture to return the cloth to her daughter. Somehow I think Not4Saken doesn't need a prayer cloth to remind her a loved one is praying for her.

As one who definitely believes in "prayer cloths", use it.

Pin it to your person and believe God for an answered prayer.

And let your daughter know, it will encourage her and help unite the two of you........

Re: PLEASE HELP...serious question!

Do you believe you have to oil down the cloth for it to be annointed?
