When Apostolic missionaries first went to Japan years ago, some of them tried to teach the Japanese women to wear their hair up (for whatever reason). The Japanese believers were shocked and resistant. Come to find out, in Japan the nape of the neck is considered to be an alluring or erotic part of the body--which is why the Geishas wore their hair up to expose it.
