Re: 2-1/2 years into a severe trial

Your words struck a chord in my heart Originalist.

I think the main issue at hand that you are dealing with is partly... why me? Why do I and my family have to go through all this suffering when others are just continuing to live life large?

Suffering is a mentality that Americans don't embrace well. Yet, suffering is the very school Christ had to go through in order to embrace victory at the cross.

Suffering, pain, sorrow, temptations, fears... all of these things come to us to show us what we are made of, and I believe God uses the "School of Suffering" to teach us more about His love, mercy and grace.

Look at the lives of the apostles.... suffering was a common chord played through their lives.

Don't look at this trial as a time to despair, but use it as a time to allow God to teach you all the things He longs for you to know, things that we can only learn in the "school of suffering."

YOU are not alone. You are chosen of God indeed, and instead of weeping, and crying bitter tears over what could have been, why not ask God to show you clearly the lesson He is teaching you through all of this, and indeed as someone else wrote... look at the great heroes of the Bible, each one of them went through the crucible before God could truly use them mightily.

I believe that is why God has YOU and your family in this place... it is for a time... and soon... there will come a time when you will understand, and be very thankful for this valley that you have walked through.

Keep the faith, trust God in all things, and lean not unto your own understanding.

I speak these words as indeed, the Lord has ministered these very same things to my husband and I too. We don't learn much in the good times... but our greatest knowledge about our precious Jesus has been in the darkest times of our lives.

And, of course, we will hold you and your family up in prayer.

Re: 2-1/2 years into a severe trial

Hi Originalist,

I know how you feel about thinking of yourself as a failure. My first two wives left me. Several Churches I started failed. My wife, a Godly consistent Christian woman and I left our home in Dayton Ohio 11 years ago and moved to a small town in Ky thinking we were being led by the Lord.

Thankfully he has given me a regular job. We live in a two bedroom trailer in the country paid for by the sale of our house in Ohio. We have gained no friends here in all that time. No one from here has paid us a social call this whole time.

We do have close friends still in Ohio and family. We would like to move back but its doubtful (unless God intervened) at 59 years old that we could make another major move. My wife took a bad fall 7 years ago and spent time in the hospital without insurance, which we still owe for. Then she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She has recovered since then thank God through the goodness of God!

I had not borrowed money for Cars or anything since 1980. The motor in my car went out a few months back taking the rest of my life savings.

So yes I know what it feels like to think you are a failure.

AND YET.....I think we are spending more precious, consistent time with Jesus than ever. We recently had a dramatic manifestation of the presence of the Almighty where he showed us again that he knows every detail of our lives even as he knows each time a sparrow falls.

Last night a resident where I work was taken to the hospital unresponsive and in very bad condition. Two people there asked me to pray. I did and she was back home in about 5 hours! So I do believe God is still very near and I still have his favor.

There have been bad decisions in my life and I do believe consequences have followed. I am nonetheless in a 38 year love relationship with Yeshua the Messiah. Tho I feel the sense of failure often HE has comforted me and shown me his kindness to the extent I love him more than ever.

Why do we suffer affliction? Well if this life was a bowl of cherries we would have no strong desire for the coming Kingdom of God! We would be content with the happiness the world can bring.

Yes YESHUA IS WORTH WHATEVER WE GO THROUGH!

Look at this amazing prophetic scripture.

Yeshua comforted a suffering Church in this manner.

Rev. 3:8-11

8And unto the angel of the church in Smyrna write ; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive ;9I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan.10Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer : behold , the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried ; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.11He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;

The Church was suffering hard economic tribulation. Did Yeshua say "Cheer up" I will change your mourning into joy soon"!

No instead he warns them its getting ready to get worse. Now you are going to prison!

But we are not taught that Yeshua is that way. He always makes it "nice" for us.

So in closing some things we suffer are just the luck of the draw. Some things are chastisment because we have offended the Lord in some way. Some times we suffer now to prepare us for the harder sufferings yet to come.

But in everything we can with the eyes of faith see that the coming of Jesus Christ is going to be the most wonderful and joyous occasion in the history of the Universe! We will rule on the Earth with him as kings and priests! We get to be a part of the re creation of planet Earth and the glorious manifestation of the sons of God!

Be strong in the Lord and in the power of his might!

Re: 2-1/2 years into a severe trial

Originalist,

I know when you are going through an extended trial it gets weary and it is tough sometimes to have perspective.

I can tell you from reading your account that I believe you are handling this as well as any Christian could and as well as God could expect of you.

I believe God will honor your work ethic to provide for your family. Back many years ago when you were a teenage I went through something similar but on a smaller and shorter scale. I lost my job and my income was cut in half. It was a time of great financial adversity but in he midst of it God gave me signs that he had not forgotten us and that we would ultimately be ok.

As men we want to provide as best we can for our wives and kids so I understand how painful it is for you to see your wife's disappointment at having to move from her home she loved. However as someone who does not know you or your wife I looked at your story as one of God's provision as the timing was such that you inherited your mom's double wide and had a place to live. Sometimes God's provision is there but not what we consider ideal or not as good as we had previous to a trial so it is hard for us to be thankful. I know that from personal experience.

I think you just have to keep on doing what you have been doing whether it is here in the USA or in Mexico. Work hard, be faithful to God, use the brain that God gave you to balance stepping out in faith with good decision making and you will be fine. I will be praying for you.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: 2-1/2 years into a severe trial

Originalist,

So sorry to hear of your trials. We went through severe trials for about 10 or 13 years and the ones before that were more mellow trials. They start to melt together after a while and trauma can take it's toll. I don't really have any words for you except that we are praying for you and we will be here. You will make it and you will be a better person with a clearer mind if you hold onto what you know and also let go of what you think you know. Godspeed.
