The only thing I don't like about the new top loaders is that they lock when in use. I am used to opening and adding clothes or bleach or softener.
Mr. Safety says, "don't do that!"

Re: Washing Machines

At my age, I don't need Mr. Safety.

P.S. I'm old enough to remember actually using washboards and a bar of soap.

I am not much difference in age than you but I remember when I was a kid that my mom had one of those washing machines with those rollers you use to put the clothes through to get the water out. I think they called it a wringer.
Anyways, my mom got her hand caught in it one time, we thought she broke her hand.

Re: Washing Machines

Yeah. We had one of those too. Mom would wash one day a week because she had to heat the water on the stove. We did not have a hot water heater. It took half a day just to heat the water to fill the tubs.

The rest of the time I had to wash by hand.

Re: Washing Machines

I had forgotten that in addition to using a lot less water than a top load the front load washer's also use a lot less detergent. The savings in detergent is probably more $$$ than the water savings actually is.

F

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Actually, ours is a top loader but is a HE low water machine so they do come in top loaders as well & they do use vless water.
I was thinking that it wouldn't get it clean--but it does.

Re: Washing Machines

I would probably get a front loader if I could afford one. Of course I would have to have that fancy matching dryer too.

Front loader or top loader--makes no difference to me.

Uh huh! You better get yo old deluded self outta here.

Women's work seems to be all the work.

A woman's work is never done. Heard that all my life and know that to be true.

A women's work is never done, that's why they need a good nman supervising them! At least that is what I tried telling my wife one day.
