Renda, some folks are SO analytical.
I'm sure you have the same memories that I do in this...growing up in the Church, worship and praise was not something people discussed or dissected:
"Is it vertical or horizontal praise?"
"Is it relevant for today?"
"Did they shockamoo in the Upper Room?"
No, back in the day, folks didn't try to explain it...they just did it. They worshiped and praised the Lord.
Not so today.

My former Pastor drilled that into us Breath Mints if you pray with people at the altar! Nothing can quench the Spirit faster then bad breath!

Re: Shouts
I have laughed in the Spirit, alone at home. People would have probably thought I was crazy if they had seen me. But, I shared that with a Nazarene friend, she said that must have been wonderful. The little Nazarene church in our town has seen some worship with raised hands, tears, and clapping of hands in worship.

"Cable is more annoying than...."
<insert 1 second scene of being slapped in the forehead at the alter>
"Cable makes me angrier than...."
<insert 1 second scene of preacher screaming in tongues in your ear>
"DirecTV is better than...."
<insert 1 second scene of pastor saying 'your dismissed'.>

I agree that a person shouldn't elevate their voice above the congregation when edifying themselves.

Did you smoke some of PO's drugs? You quoted a verse about the crucifixion as a proof text for people "lifting up" the Lord in praise.

houston, I know you are outspoken & at times appear to lack civility in your posts, but that comment was way out of line!
An apology & retraction would be in order!
