Re: Disturbing... not quite sure why...
All music types have a secular origin or counter part. Lets find out who was using speakers and sound systems first then.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:
- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Huh? what are you talking about?
Most popular American music of today has its origin in church music. Blues, RandB, country, rock and roll, they all go back to church music on the 19th century.
Anyway, who said anything about 'who was using sound systems and speakers first'?

There is a difference, in my opinion, between 'music'in general, and church music.
All music styles should be used to glorify God and speak truth. Thus, there should be Christian rap, christian metal, christian country, Christian techno, etc etc.
But for church, when the saints come together, I believe we should be much more discriminating. Just because we tag Christian lyrics to a tune or composition or 'mix' or whatever, does not make it best or even proper for corporate worship.

I agree. In the gathering I prefer scriptural praise and worship as in the Jesus Movement and Charismatic groups I came up through. Messianic is also good for the meeting.
Other music is ok/good for driving in the car or personal enjoyment ie Country Gospel, Classic Christian Rock.

Re: Disturbing... not quite sure why...
I read that "Amazing Grace" was written to the tune of a popular drinking song of the day. I wonder if people were complaining back then that the style of music was too worldly... I have heard some really anointed Christian rap. I thought this bible commentary was interesting: http://www.bibletools.org/index.cfm/...eVerseID/28560
But the first song "I'm an Apostolic", whilst I guess may have its time and place, does come across as self-glorification to me.

The hymn Amazing Grace (originally titled 'Faith's Expectation and Review') was a hymn written by John Newton. It was sung throughout the 18th and 19th centuries to various tunes. The one we all know and love is the tune called 'New Britain', which first appeared in written form associated with Amazing Grace back in 1829 or 1835 (can't remember which one). It has been sung to many different tunes, and even today some churches sing it to a tune other than New Britain.
New Britain's origin in unknown. The melody appears Scottish, as it follows the traditional Scottish pentatonic form. Scholars speculate it is either a Scottish folk tune, a forgotten hymn tune from Scotland, an American folk tune or hymn tune originating probably in the south (lots of Scots settled in the southern colonies/states and Scotland's influence is still felt there), or even possibly a melody devised by slaves (who would have used the Scottish form due to being exposed and surrounded by Scottish-American influences).
The claim it was a 'drinking song' is wholly without merit or basis in fact or history. It appears to be a myth or 'urban legend'.

Re: Disturbing... not quite sure why...
Hank Williams Sr. wrote I Saw The Light. So is it a country/western or a gospel song?
