I've been in Texas since 1980. That is one rough area now but was a nice sort of middle class place in the '60's and even early 70's believe it or not... when it turned it turned fast... My family ran to the Inglewood/Hathorne area to get away when the gangs got so bad. Then to the high desert after I'd left home and lastly mom moved to San Diego (her home town) when she was widowed later in life... Made visits home a lot more fun

It was a new cultural experience. My order was taken from behind a thick glass. Money and food was exchanged through a slot. A huge camera was in my face. I was buzzed into the restroom.
The facts are that children get shot in schools because they are gun free zones and the poor good guys have to run toward the killers with nothing to defend themselves or the kids. A principle and at least two teachers died just that way in the recent elementary school shooting. They did not lack courage or strength or a strong protective instinct or common sense or physical agility... they lacked an equalizer in the form of a firearm. Do you realize that almost all mass shootings have been in gun free zones?
After the Luby's shooting in Waco in 1991 there was no doubt in my mind that a single person with a weapon could have made a difference. My husband's family is a law enforcement family and guns have always been part of my married life... Would I panic... I don't think so. I've never been in a shoot out but I've been around a lot of gunfire up close and personal. I grew up in the Compton area of Los Angeles, I've been in more than a couple of life or death situations. From other life experiences I can say with certainty that I'm not the panicky sort. In example, I took a fall 25 feet and totally shattered my right lower leg... My husband loves to tell the story of how I turned my own foot back to straight, cut off my own shoe with a pocket knife to inspect the bones poking out of it, and got it splinted and wrapped all while waiting for EMS. I have five boys, we've had an injury or three around here... no panic.
I carry my firearm daily. I have put 400 rounds through it in the last week and will put another couple hundred through it Saturday at a tactical range. If I need to use it I believe I will not hesitate... but all that aside... I'd take anyone with even minimal training with a gun to come to my defense if I were the person laying under a table at Luby's or hiding in a classroom closet waiting for some maniac to come shoot me in the head. Heck I'd take Cindy and she seems like the sweetest person ever... because in that situation if someone is going to blow my head off I'd rather have it be someone who did it by mistake while trying to save my life than someone who did it on purpose because of their own sick agenda.

The references were simply to state that
A) Yes I have been exposed to gunfire at the 'street' level. Scary as heck.
B) I do all I can to be prepared to use my firearm, practicing at both paper-target and tactical ranges- not much more a person can do even if preparing for a role in law enforcement or war.
C) I know myself to be a level headed person with a lot of life experience as proof.
By your standard, I will assume, there is no person anywhere qualified to carry a firearm unless they have possibly come home from war having made no errors in any live fire situation.... oh wait... even they could mess up... OK...NO person.
And my position AGAIN is that I'd take a 12 year old with a .22 trying to save my life if he were the only one available... and I assume that so would most folks... Of course if you'd rather be shot by some nut-job... I'm happy to let you.

Ever shot at someone? I haven't. It's not like in the movies where every bullet hits the target. Sometimes you miss, whether by a lot or just a little. It happens. What you're missing is what happened after the bad guy was confronted by a good guy with a gun. The bad guy killed himself. What would have happened if the bad guy wasn't confronted by a good guy with a gun? We won't know. But I'm glad, and I'm sure others in the airport were glad for the good guy with the gun who put his life at risk to confront the bad guy. Even if he fired a shot and missed.
Real life isn't Hollywood action movies.

We should consider facts before accusing the agent of going Rambo.
1) He didn't hit anyone; 2) being an Air Marshall I would only assume that he would be aware of his surroundings and target carefully.
The FoxNews, Houston Chronicle, KHOU, and MyFoxHouston articles all vary in detail. FoxNews and KHOU both have the shots fired at 5. MFH has a twitter feed with someone there claiming he heard 20 shots; it also has two United employees saying there were only a few shots fired. An HC article was very limited in info, and didn't have a number of shots.
From the info available I gather that the suspect came in, shot a round into the ceiling, sat down; a Homeland Security agent came out of an office, confronted him, discharged his weapon and the suspect shot himself in the head
Nowhere would it appear the HS agent went Rambo shooting up the place. It reads as though he was measured and careful in his confrontation.

I'm not sure what your big nasty 'tude is all about, nor do I really care... You asked for my experiences and I gave an honest account of them... I lived where there were frequent 'drive-by' type shootings in my youth... just walking to school was pretty dangerous some days. It was bad enough to make my parents abandon their home and move to a rental in another town after their front windowns were shot out. I was a child and while I remember it well, clearly I was not a participant.
I believe I am qulified to carry a firearm and the state of Texas has agreed by issuing my CHL. If you don't like that, tough noogies.

So a guy walks into an Airport filled with people and fires a gun. (it was not an automaic rifle. maybe a simi-auto?) Upon hearing this, a law enforcement officer responds, fires a shot and the bad guy with a gun, turns from his intent of killing people and kills himself.
Sounds to me that "one good man with a gun" saved a bunch of innocents from death and mayhem.
What's the problem here?
Oh and by the way, this is not the case you should use to suggest teachers will gun down kids in a terror filled panic moment. The good man here fired one shot, didnt hurt any innocents, and did not panic and did not keep shooting when the bad guy went down.
