Another KJV Mistranslation

Luke 13:32

King James Version (KJV)

32 And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.

Luke 13:32

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

32 He said to them, “Go and tell that fox for me,[a] ‘Listen, I am casting out demons and performing cures today and tomorrow, and on the third day I finish my work.

CJManzell believes that Luke 13:32 means that Christ was born with a sin nature and perfected at resurrection. This is what you get with fundamentalists who rely solely on the kjv.

Nope. Like I said, I was just wondering.

I am a KJV only wako as you put it and I in no way get that from that passage. That type of error does not come from holding to the KJV but rather from pulling things out of context twisting it and then not comparing it to other scripture to see if you have interpreted it correctly.

Not a mistranslation. But it had nothing to do with sin or morality. It had to do with the resurrection and being raised incorruptible...the completion of God's plan

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

i still believe in using kjv and nrsv together. doesn't the nrsv make more sense? "i finish my work" refers back to casting out demons and curing the sick. it is in context and can still refer to his resurrection. i shall be perfected seems like an additional statement.

Re: Another KJV Mistranslation

my only objection to nrsv so far:

John 1:18

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

18 No one has ever seen God. It is God the only Son,[a] who is close to the Father’s heart,[b] who has made him known.
Footnotes:

  1. John 1:18 Other ancient authorities read It is an only Son, God, or It is the only Son
this verse may seem to support trinitarianism but the footnotes contain the kjv translation.

one positive anti trinitarian verse is the following:

1 John 5:6-8

New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

Testimony concerning the Son of God

6 This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. 7 There are three that testify:[a] 8 the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree.
Footnotes:

  1. 1 John 5:7 A few other authorities read (with variations) 7 There are three that testify in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one. 8 And there are three that testify on earth:
while the kjv contains the trinitarian version

Hmm, pretty interesting! My only real objection to the KJV (besides some quite minor archaic word usage) is "Easter." But I'm finding most objections to any one translation moot now, what with the Bible engines available on the web...not sure what I'd do if left to only one translation now, lol--I usually read like 6 at once.
