3) To tell me inform me of a future event in such a way that I will rely more upon Him for further use in that aspect of my life.
4) Just to let me know that He still loves and cares for me, and is willing to talk to me.

There are other ways that He could speak to me, but in the end, I am not going to question it. I will wait and see what the outcome will be. As I said, this is not the first time, nor will it be the last, where God might have revealed a small portion of the future to me in a dream. I trust that either God did or did not speak, but I will be content to wait.

I had a similar experience. During prayer the Lord told me to pray for GWB and his wife as he would be our next president. He had not, as yet, been elected Governor of Texas. When he won that office, I knew it was possible. I was very hesitant to relate that to anyone, and actually never did, but the prayer proved to be true.
All of the reasons you cited above, I would agree with as my explanation as well.
The court issue over the "hanging shad" was a mess and very stressful. People can say Bush cheated with that, but according to God in that prayer, years prior, God lays it down that GWB will be President.
I am with MTD here, and would only add - Don't listen to the mockers. God does speak to His people. It can be prophetic and can also be to calm us down, allowing us to know He is in control regardless of the outcome. It's not that we don't already know that, but sometimes He simply wants to remind us.
