Peanut brittle was a mainstay of the Ladies Aux. in my former church... They also did dinners (lunches) for local businesses one day a month and everyone loved their food. I sold both at work (since I couldn't actually be there to help cook) and could not keep up with all the orders. I also carry the honorable distinction of having sold the highest number of chocolate dipped strawberries for the youth fundraiser three years in a row! It's really all about the hungry women I work with. But it felt good to be able to pass the 'prize' on to one of the disadvantaged youth that did not have a huge family in church to help get their sales up.

We make our own peanut butter... and we've grown our own peanuts... but they don't do great here and take up a lot of space.

Re: Question about an Apostolic tradition

My Grandparent's church made peanut brittle for ages. I actually remember it being that time of year when I fell and broke my arm as a small child. I also helped make and sell peanut brittle, fudge, divinity, and chocolate peanutbutter balls when we lived in Kansas. I think it helped give the church something to bond over. Ours was often considered the best that could be had. We were driving up to two hours away to sell that stuff. Ah, great times...

Re: Question about an Apostolic tradition

Our church always made suckers. I do not think the total money earned was all that much but the ladies had a great time getting together for the afternoon to make them.

Of course MY idea to start a micro brewery, and make some REAL $$$, never gained much traction.
