Re: UPCI to remove televsion prohibition...

Absolutely ridiculous that people are still talking about whether or not to have a television in this lost and dying world. How self-centered can people get?

Agree. Simply another issue to get hung up and argue about to distract from winning the lost.

Those sentiments would be true for every other subject in the world. We're not supposed to discuss anything, just "reach the lost"?

C'mon. It has nothing to do with morality. It has everything to do with politics.

How is that self centered?

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

It is self-centered because it is focusing in self-made rules and on the self. The politics of whether the UPC thinks its members should own televisions has nothing to do with God. It is human mire and a distraction from the calling.

And yes, reaching the lost should absolutely the the focus of church discussions.

Both sides might argue their intent is reaching the lost.

It's not self-centered so much as irrelevant. At least, that's exactly what it is for me.

IMO, discussion of standards is fine as long as one doesn't tire of beating a dead horse. After all, we all know standards, TV and other controversial subjects keep these forums exciting. Right? I take issue with people that cant get past their own standards to reach a lost world, this is where selfishness comes into play (not accusing anyone here of that). Once again, just my opinion, but its time for us apostolics to build relations with God, let God establish boundaries and standards individually, be modest about our modesty, quit bragging about how "holy" are and reach somebody.

I couldn't agree with you more, et. I did just that back in the late 80's and early 90's.
This thread is simply a discussion about a subject that is relevant to the UPCI in 2013. My point was that no one discusses only reaching the lost 24/7.
