Re: UPC Upper Body Synchronized Dancing
Why is it that a choir singing isn't entertainment, but let that choir start moving their bodies to the beat and SHAZAM! It's no longer godly.
David danced. His wife laughed. God laughed harder.

I belonged to a UPC church not long ago that has this ministry. It's really awesome.

And if you have never witnessed a service with Eddie James, you are missing something great.

One of the few things I miss from our UPC days. It was such sweet worship.

To me, there is nothing like having youth people on the stage of the church 'performing'. It beats where they could be doing much, much worse.

AMEN Houston.
Had this going on a few times at a church that I used to attend. It was said that it is a ministry. Fine, bring in the deaf. Did they, no?

I have seen this type of dancing in Charismatic churches but I never thought I would see it in UPC. I had heard one UPC in Florida had this dancing and I e-mailed them but never heard back.
I have heard it called interpretive dancing and I have heard it called prophetic dancing (don't understand either one). Usually it is slender people - never any over weight people that are doing the dancing.
I have seen people do the sign language in church services and it usually one person off to the side in a special seating section for the hearing imparied.
What I want to know is there a sign language person for every song and the preaching too?
At a church conference (not UPC) sometime ago and they did the same thing. What some people mistake for the anointing is the song itself is anointed and not the dancing.
I believe in dancing in the spirit and shouting and running the isles and it is true David danced before the Lord with all his might. He saw the ark coming down the road. We have had good church services through the years, were we wrong all those years by not having this type of dancing. I remember when the power of God came upon me for the first time and it surely wasn't chorographed.
I guess I am old fashioned and that is ok. I am going to Heaven and let the people do what they want but I going to make it.
I would never have thought I would see it in the UPC.

I was there for the NA Talent Search (which this performance was part of, Worship Arts category), and I enjoyed it because it was expressive, joyful praise. I didn't get goose bumps (is that the litmus test??!!), but I enjoyed watching a group of young people praise God. The choreography makes it pleasing to the eye, and that's where it can be called an "art" I suppose.
There was a lot of leaping and moving around the stage, so there was certainly more going on than the upper body. However, there were no hip gyrations or anything that could be even remotely pegged as inappropriate or sensual.

I think the sign language is thrown in to make it more interesting. You have to have a bit more dance skill to make choreography interesting by itself.

Why? They looked like they were having fun, too.
