The Crystal Ball

Larry Sabato’s latest hit my inbox this morning, and here we have his view of the 2016 GOP race’s first- and second-tier candidates.

Coming back to add - I don't know how many of Ron Paul's followers have forgiven Rand for endorsing Romney, but George Will said Sunday morning, "With Ron Paul's supporters backing Rand, he already has the plurality."

I would rather see Ted Cruz as the nominee than Rand Paul.

Luke, I wouldn't mind that myself. I like them both, but prefer Cruz. I wouldn't mind having them both on the ticket. I'm not sure the GOP Establishment won't throw them both under a bus.

I would change that to say the Republican Establishment. Certainly there are quite a few individual Republicans who proudly wear the label True Conservative/Libertarian.

Re: GOP Candidates 2016

Hopefully this time there won't be 50 GOP debates, and the winner is able to get out of the primary without being politically hacked to death as Romney was last year. I'd like the winner to have a strong pulse and not be profusely bleeding from the repeated bashing from other candidates.

I agree, except that I will hack any candidate, like Romney, who is a subversive progressive Republican. Just sayin'.....

Here's a question. If they are really "true conservative/libertarians"... why don't they become Libertarian??? Political expediency. And in the end they compromise their libertarian positions to keep their positions.
