I have seen people who wear their illnesses as a badge of identity. It is what defines them. Can I say it? Some folks don't want healing. So they rely on drugs to treat the symptoms rather than a God that can cleanse.

This happens not only in the realm of physical infirmity; there are many people who refuse to give up their inner "wounds" because they have taken on an identity as "wounded," and use it as an excuse not to move on and be productive in their life and walk with God.
They enjoy the attention they receive as a result so much that they become the perpetual convalescent.
If they were to let go of that wound, they would lose some of that status, and perhaps would be expected to do something besides bewail their constant pains.
Can't have that...no fun there.
