Re: Come Out Of Her My People
You are absolutely correct...it's what goes on in the building that is important.
This past weekend we had several get the Holy Ghost and were baptized. Also, we gave to missions, had community outreach, etc.
It's amazing what a group of people can accomplish when we all come together...in a building!

Sister, it isn't a wisecrack, he is stating a fact, and he even supplied archaeological findings for you. The brother was making an effort to show that a building to be able to bring everyone together for fellowship was used by the early church until now, and therefore was an invention by Rome.
Let me ask you a question do you believe in a full time ministry? Ministers who have left their secular work to preach the gospel and therefore they live of the Gospel?

Amen sister, amen.
Whether it's a house, or a supermarket converted into a church building (Brother Bobby Stewart Miami Florida) assembling people together is the church. Without the people it is just a building.
Yet, no one is saying that we worship the building, and that the building supersedes the Body of Christ which is the members of the church.

Re: Come Out Of Her My People
I agree, cept I'd say not only w out the people it's just a bldg, but also w the people it's still just a bldg, whether a house, a tin shack, large bldg, whatever.
My beef is w calling a man made bldg a "House of God".
"Lets get together and clean the house of God on Saturday"... nonsense, and against new covenant teaching IMO.

Those pesky elements that God created continue to drive up back inside.

I'll admit my last comment was somewhat in jest, but still a valid question I feel. You listed church buildings as part of the sins we brought over from the RCC; and yet you desire to attend one. My question was valid, in that if you truly believe it's a sin--why would you want to partake in sin?

There's nothing wrong with discussing sports or other things. Even Paul used sports metaphor in his writing.

I hope you don't think this is a ridicule, but how could we be a model for the Early Church if the Early Church came before us? That aside, Jesus' teachings and Paul's writings are the model we should live by. I don't believe the Early Church is a model for us; meaning we don't live together, sharing everything.

I'm assuming you mean Jesus founded no church building, correct? Otherwise there's the whole "upon this rock I will build my church" thing that contradicts that statement. There are other things Jesus did not do as well. Jesus did not baptize one individual. He commanded his disciples to baptize, but did not do so Himself.

As has been mentioned earlier, there were church buildings in the Early Church time. And as I stated before, if we're getting hung up on church buildings vs home services, we're missing the point altogether. I don't mean to joke, poke fun at, ridicule or whatever; I mean this seriously, it's a silly argument to debate whether services in a building or services in a home are more Biblical, Godly or correct. We're missing the entire point if that's what the focus and debate is on.

Normally the people wanting to "rethink church" are the modern, hipster, emergent types. I agree we shouldn't become stagnant, and we should always be seeking a fresh anointing from God.

I don't believe my ego was involved with the discussion, nor do I not understand what you posted. I understand it; I just disagree with it and relayed my disagreements. That is a dialogue. A dialogue doesn't mean you have to agree. And when you don't agree, it's just tacky to accuse people of letting their "ego" get in the way, or complain about ridicule. It's all part of dialogue.

Not so. Your initial statement was that church buildings were very important, in that they were sinful, introduced by the RCC, and that we should come out from them and start home churches.
If this new statement is what you really believe, I wholeheartedly agree. The building is nothing more than brick and mortar. It's just a place for the church (people of God) to gather to worship.

So what's the big deal if someone calls it a house of God, house of worship, church building, temple, tabernacle, meeting house, house of meeting, or assembly? The Bible calls the building a synagogue which is Greek for assembly?

Please explain how it is a wisecrack or mockery. It's the truth. They always met in buildings!
This truth formed the basis of the rest of my point, which you brushed off.
Nobody said the building is important. Can you show me who said the building is important?
Nobody denied we are the temple (Church)
