First, this is a law given by God, and if anything reveals the moral compass of God himself.

Third, the case under consideration in this thread is of a man who raped a married woman.
Deut 22:25-27 states that forcible rape is the same as when a man commits murder. The death penalty is demanded of the rapist.
The link I gave above gives a detailed analysis of the verse you quoted, showing that it is not speaking of forcible, violent rape of an unwilling victim.
The Bible requires the death penalty for forcible rape.
It also requires that two people who decide to 'get it on' are required to marry.
It also requires the death penalty for adultery, and for kidnapping as well.
That is the 'moral compass' of God.
