Personally, I've seen funerals where preachign was done and it made me sick and angry. Some family members are not believers and won't be swayed at a funeral. So instea dof tryign to heal their hurt over their loss...lets offend them while we're at it and tell them they are lost in a backhanded way.
I think we should focus on celebrating the deceased's life at a funeral, do it with class, be loving and just try to connect to the family members. If you leave an impression it may open the door for you to reach them. But to use the death of a loved one as an opportunity to preach Acts 2:38 and risk offending people who are already hurting? Just seems stupid to me. |
I have been to funerals where not only was preaching done, it was a full all out service complete with a choir! However, those in attendance that knew the deceased felt it was fitting also. I believe in most cases, the family is asked what they wishes are in regard to the service and they approve.
