Nadia Bolz-Weber, Tattoo'd, Cursing "Pastor"

Nadia Bolz-Weber bounds into the University United Methodist Church sanctuary like a superhero from Planet Alternative Christian. Her 6-foot-1 frame is plastered with tattoos, her arms are sculpted by competitive weightlifting and, to show it all off, this pastor is wearing a tight tank top and jeans.

In her body and her theology, Bolz-Weber represents a new, muscular form of liberal Christianity, one that merges the passion and life-changing fervor of evangelicalism with the commitment to inclusiveness and social justice of mainline Protestantism. She’s a tatted-up, foul-mouthed champion to people sick of being belittled as not Christian enough for the right or too Jesus-y for the left.

Her message: Forget what you’ve been told about the golden rule — God doesn’t love you more if you do good things, or if you believe certain things. God, she argues, offers you grace regardless of who you are or what you do.

Bolz-Weber says she abhors “spirituality,” which she sees as a limp kind of self-improvement plan. She prefers a cranky, troublemaking and real God who at times of loss and pain doesn’t have the answers either.

Started listening to one of her "messages." No thanks. I'm sure some here though would enjoy her "ministry."

Started to post this yesterday. No way would I listen to that, it's wrong in so many ways.

I'd actually to to epley's church before I'd sit and listen to her. That's how bad it is.

In the message I started listening to, she was talking about the publican and the pharisee.

Because honestly here’s an EGOcessory prayer that might be familiar: I thank you God that I am not like others: thieves, rouges, adulterers…people who don’t recycle. I thank you God, that I am not like those People who don’t sign up for jobs at church. Thank you that I always remember to bring my reusable grocery bags to Whole Foods, I have replaced all my incandescents with compact fluorescents and I have a rainbow flag sticker on my Prius. Thank you Jesus.

Well, THAT’S uncomfortable.

Especially if the other guy, the Tax Collector…the one who is a traitor to his people, the guy who is totally the one percent, who hordes wealth at the expense of others, the one who litters and tells racist jokes and buys over packaged goods and has gun racks and T & A mud flaps on his truck prays simply “God, have mercy on me a sinner”

Try the spirits to see whether they are of God or not, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

The darker the world gets, the brighter the Church may shine.
