but we dont go to a church that majors on these things, nor do I determine someones salvation based on my particular standards.
Well some of us Apostolics have a different standards than others, but of course the accusation is that we do not have standards, which is not true for we do not attend church naked.

I wear a wedding ring, because it lets everyone know that I am a married man, that loves his wife so much that he does not mind showing the world that he is married.

There is not confusion of a lady looking out for a man, to hit on me.

Re: Are All the Apostolics Gone from AFF?

I chose option 1, but to clarify the dress standards stereotype and in the interest of transparency:

1. I lean more toward principles of modesty, femininity and appropriateness. I think pants are fine in certain situations, like at the gym or when skiing, riding horses, etc. Our daughters played basketball and wore knee-length, loose-fitting basketball shorts that were very modest and not form fitting. In short, I don't believe that it's a sin for a woman to wear pants, although I don't wear them in public because of the modesty factor. If I need to wear pants in public for an activity, I wear something that has a skirt attached or layer to cover my hips/bottom--for the sake of modesty.

2. I believe it is ideal for women to have long hair and men to have short hair, but I don't believe it is a salvational issue. I believe it is the matter that it represents that is the salvational issue (subjection to authority). I also don't believe there's enough evidence to make it about whether or not the hair is cut or trimmed, and I think the word "long" refers to length; not the state of being untrimmed. Hair length is a practical tool for gender distinction, but more importantly, it's a symbol of subjection to authority. Like a wedding ring, however, it is the underlying issue that is most important; not the symbol of it. For example, I feel strongly about wearing a wedding ring as a symbol of my commitment to my husband, but I don't believe it's a sin not to wear one.

3. I don't believe make-up is a sin, but I believe in moderation and modesty. This applies to makeup, and IMO, excessive, heavy, garish makeup is immodest and immoderate. I feel some measure of rebellion toward the western idea that women need makeup in order to be beautiful, but men are acceptable just as they are. However, I do understand that women are naturally attracted to these types of things, and struggling with vanity and a lack of self-esteem are common and contradictory female struggles.

What I practice personally in regard to standards is more principle based than it is commandment based, and I don't feel these issues are truly salvational. That's why I feel comfortable leaving room for other people to apply their own understanding to these issues without judgment. I also understand that some people feel a moderate approach is too "sticky" and prefer it to be all-or-nothing. I truly understand that it's simpler that way. I don't need simplicity in order to keep my sanity, but I get that approach.

Just to clarify.

Re: Are All the Apostolics Gone from AFF?

Miss Brattfield can you explain what is immodest about wearing pants? How do you define modesty in a way a pair of slacks is immodest?

That is purely a matter of opinon. A few hundred million muslims would probably disagree with you, and out of those, a few million would call for you to be charged with a serious crime. (Admittedly, out of 1.7 billion muslims worldwide, I have no idea how many take Islamic dress codes very seriously or literally, but probably at least a few dozen million, if not a few hundreds million. ) Anyhow, a few thousand Pentecostals would also agree with those millions of muslims and say that your jeans are indeed an immodest thing to wear outside your own home.

Me, no problem, and a fine photograph to boot. But as always, consider the source.

Um, tight pants that hug your thighs, hips, and butt is not immodest...? um.. alright, If someone had a skirt on that was just as close fitting people would call it immodest...oh well, I guess it's so hard to judge nowadays...

I care NOT what Muslims think about me......and that's why I don't live where MY choice of dress would be a crime.....totally asinine! As for the *few thousands of the others* still don't care. I care about only one persons opinion and that is my husband! If it passes his *test* .... the rest of the world can *take it to jesus* on what they think or their passing judgment on others who wear jeans.....*outside of their home* LOL But I do understand what you mean in your post

I would not judge a *form fitting* skirt as immodest! The last Apostolic - UPC church my family attended for a short time had woman and girls (on and off the platform) who wore such. If you look good and can wear it .... then wear it well.....

Interesting. Please allow me to explore your line of reasoning. If, suppose, your husband one night wanted you to go out with him, and also asked that you dress in a really slutty way (no, he didn't use the word, but it still ended up being something you personally regarded as "slutty") would you do it because what really counts is "<<the opinion of my husband>>" ?

Would your other comment also apply in such a case, that
"<<the rest of the world can just Take It To Jesus.>>" ?

(PS, this is only a "what if" question, as I realize your own husband would not ask you to do that.)

omg.....really...??? please allow me to answer this asinine question....(without getting myself banned) THERE IS NO *what if* !!!! NO.....I would not dress *slutty* never have !!! My husband is a real man....NOT a freak or a perv who wants his wife *eyed* !! >:-( My style of dress is never out of line or even close to be *revealing* or as you say ... slutty. And I will still stand by what I said....my husband is the only one I care about who thinks what! If he has ever seen something out of line of what he thinks is NOT descent....he will let me know and no more is said about it! As for the latter.....heck yes it would still stand....*take it to Jesus* I am so sick of people who pass judgment on others who dress *out of their own close minded way of thinking* and so therefore, that makes another look like a sinner, slut or dressing immodest! ! seriously......
I do not think it is descent for a woman to show ones mid section (ie...belly) or wear low riders, low cut tops or even shorts. In which I do not wear any of the above. My jeans are modest, not *cutting* and not indecent!
