mtd, you are basically saying that if and when we obey the word our love is made perfect. I don't disagree with this verse but I disagree with your method. I am perceiving that you are saying that obedience leads to love.
Galatians 3:2-3

2 This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
3 Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?
here paul is clearly saying that obedience to the word is achieved through the "spirit". and what is the spirit? God is Love. we are made perfect by practicing the spirit of love and that love leads to obedience of the word. when
I John 2 says, "your love is made perfect by obedience" it is saying there first is love in the individual that is then being perfected by obedience, not that obedience produces love.
