But do they toe the standards line?

Because we all know churches must not have standards if they're growing. Standard-preaching churches never grow!

lol
I believe that the only thing more worldly than Hollywood is religious legalism. Interestingly, those churches who drop the "standards" (as the UPCI defines them) have opportunity to grow in true holiness and Christlikeness.

I know churches that do not preach standards and have never grown...I know churches that preach standards that are growing and visa versa....

This is true. I know recently of one church that left the UPC and dropped dress standards. They experienced a big "revival" of people coming in for a few months, then it dwindled down to less than they had before they left the UPC.
Dress standards have little impact on church growth.

When we were in Home Missions in a metro area, one year I looked at the statistics for Easter services. Some churches grew a lot and many shrunk. In all, there was one more person in the whole area attending than the year before.

Yep! So much for "revival" is what I thought.

Re: Did you mourn leaving the UPC?
BTW, in case it's lost here...church attendance and growth is down as a whole, across all denominations in the US. Even the simple belief in God is at an all-time low in the US right now as well. Those quick to point out the UPC's alleged lack of growth should remember this.

Re: Did you mourn leaving the UPC?
I wonder if there's been any kind of study on home groups, home meetings, or home fellowships... to see how fast they're growing? It seems a lot of people are leaving mainstream churches seeking home-based fellowships.
