RDP, thanks for taking the time to respond. We agree on some things, other things we don't.
To recap my position: A woman should never try to usurp authority from her husband, that we agree on.
Church government, as outlined by the Apostle Paul, was bishops, elders, and perhaps deacons (I agree there could be a bit of a sway on deacons as you mentioned).
Paul identifies the five-fold ministry as being a help to the church, different from church government, and therefore entirely possible that women could fit those roles, if the woman remains within the boundaries of headship.
Romans 12:6-8,
I Cor. 12:28-31,
Ephesians 4:11-13
There are no written records in the NT of a woman expounding scripture to a group of believers (in a synagogue or otherwise), although we certainly see Priscilla working alongside her husband sharing the gospel.
So, it remains that if God has called a woman to minister to the church, it should be within the boundaries of God's ordained headship order, and it should be to edify the church, and not to rule or govern the church.
That is how I see things, in a nutshell. I admit this is my opinion, and my study of the scriptures has led me to this understanding. I don't claim to be a Greek/Hebrew expert at all, but then again, don't believe I should have to be, to understand the simple principles God has set forth in his word.
There is a place for women in ministry, but it is within careful boundaries. The problem is, that many times those boundaries are ignored, and the few women who do this make it easy for others to broad-brush all women who minister in the church as "Jezebels", which is sad, and certainly not the case.
Even though I've never met Sis. Alvear in person, her sweet spirit that she exhibits here and the obvious fruits of her labor, in response to the call of God, would signal that there is a place and a work for women in the five-fold ministry given to edify the church. There are many others, too, who have shared that God called them to minister and edify the church, and there many such great women of God who have shared the gospel and certainly edified the church.
It has been interesting interacting with you RDP, and I am glad to hear you and your wife will be taking a few days off together, I hope your time together will be refreshing for you both.
Until we meet again
