Windows XP

April is fast approaching and I am still an XP diehard. Once Microsoft stops supporting, what concerns should I have? Will keeping my antivirus program up to date be enough to make my computer secure? I'm not sure my system will handle Windows 7. Would appreciate some good advice.

I would have more than just an Anti Virus program.

What is your system?

Try downloading Spybot and regularly update and immunize

Also download Malwarebytes AntiMalware program and routinely scan your PC.

Re: Windows XP

Will download those two programs now. Would Google Chrome be a better browser than Firefox? Thanks for your help.

Ok, it looks like Win 7 may run on it, since it's a 64 bit CPU.

You'll need more ram though

Browsers are like Cars...everyone has their favorite and claims theirs is better.

I personally don't know or have an opinion as to what is better, however just because MicroSoft is not supporting XP anymore does not mean they are not supporting their latest Browsers. Same goes for FF and Chrome

Re: Windows XP

a possible hit for you on a win7 upgrade, http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load...503211270.html but read all the comments. i think it's supposed to be technically possible, but not advisable. i'd follow Prax advice, those are both good progs, and maybe just limit your surfing on that machine. i tried on a very similar(maybe even the same) tower w/o adding ram, and was disappointed

Re: Windows XP

chrome = "open," less harddrive-hogging
firefox = more secure, more for business, giving credit card info, more hogging

Re: Windows XP

I may give Best Buy a call to give me an estimate on installing more ram and win 7. Any thoughts on Google Chrome vs Mozilla Firefox?

Re: Windows XP

i really like chrome. used to keep them both on my xp machine, but i noticed that they conflicted. but i only gave CC info via Tor, so i ditched FF--which many swear by, so i think it's pick one or the other, imo.
