Not really.
That seat has been held by a Republican for over 40 years.

Obama carried that part of the state when there was a high voter turnout.

Less than half of the people who voted in the national elections voted in this "special" election-- and then, the Republican only beat Sink by two percentage points and that's not a blowout.

I think the so-called "average American" doesn't want the Affordable Care Act repealed as much as they just want the law to work well for themselves and their neighbors. Then again, I could just be projecting.

Obama won the district in 2010 and Sink won the district when she ran for governor.

Even the Republicans didn't think Jolly was a great candidate. He won with a Libertarian shaving off 5% of the vote.

And the lower voter turnout brings out your most energized voters. If the "average American" didn't want it repealed, Sink would have won.

The bottom line is that Sink ran (outspending Jolly by $1 million) on the idea of "fixing" Obamacare and that is not a winning strategy right now.

Sink also brought in Bill Clinton to help rally for her toward the end, and that didn't help, which is really interesting.

Yesterday the House voted that anyone can claim a "hardship" for exemption, with the "hardship" not being defined in any way, leaving the possibility open that virtually anyone could claim an exemption for the OC penalty, and not have to pay it. This makes me very happy!

Have you been to the www.healthcare.gov website? My accountant advised us that because of the financial hardship we suffered last year, and our low ANI (annual net income), that we could qualify for free healthcare, with our premiums subsidized. Also, if we DON'T get the healthcare, that we could possibly have to pay the penalty.

So, I went to the healthcare.gov site, and looked at our options. Not bad, especially considering, for this year at least, that it would be "subsidized" and we wouldn't have to pay for it.

Anyone else considering signing up for the "free" healthcare... if your annual net income falls in a certain range, you may qualify for "free" healthcare, remembering of course, that nothing is "free", and that someone is paying for it, even if you aren't. This makes us reluctant to participate in this mess, even if for one year.

You are right D4Life... this is NOT freedom! This is not just a tax. This is forcing every American to do something against their free will. This is just the beginning. If ObamaCare succeeds, what will they impose upon us next?
Everyone in Texas is require to have auto insurance, if they own and drive. Is this so different? Just asking???

Will people get mad when they see their neighbor not exercising, smoking and eating fast food? Because in a few years you will have to pay their medical bill. That includes heart surgery or whatever else is needed.

I don't want to pay for other people's consequences, just my own. If I treat my body like a temple why should I be forced to pay for a person who uses their body like a play ground.

I watched a science fiction film a while ago called Elysium. In it rich people have magic machines that can heal any sickness. It did make me stop and think for a second.

If I had a way to heal every single person on the planet and it would not affect me in any way I would love for everybody to be healed. The problem is somebody has to pay for it and it is usually me.

Most people are tired of going to work everyday just so other people can get free stuff.
