Re: You Can Fake It All
I can agree with you, n david. However, Paul's letters never included a checklist to use in a manner where people would go down the list, having faith in the list, and proclaiming themselves or another to be "in" or "out" based upon outward compliance of any rules.
Isn't that what happened with the Old Testament law? People could check off the list.....BUT.
Jesus himself showed them that their hearts could be far from God, even though the list had been completed.
Jesus showed that they could refrain from physically committing adultery, but that they were in sin if they lusted after someone else but didn't do the act.
Jesus showed that the tares would grow with the wheat.
The New Testament explains that no one was changed by keeping the points of the law. How? Because year after year there was yet the necessity of sacrifices for sin.

Fakery comes in many forms. Many fakers follow the law but totally ignore the spirit of the law.

Re: You Can Fake It All
Agreed. And some are not deliberately faking anything, but think that they are "in" due to checking off their list. They are following a list, thinking that is following God, when there is so much more to it than that.

You don't like the UPC, okay, I get it. Just use some intellectual honesty in a thread like this and admit that ANYONE in ANY denomination can fake it. This isn't something limited to the UPC.

Hey brother, I agree with you here. Why target our UPC brethren...thank God for them...even though we disagree on some things. They have "more" truth than almost any group I can think of. They are not perfect people, cause God did not deliver them from their 'flesh". Like the rest of the world religions. It is WORK to walk in the Spirit and very difficult at times. They have wonderful saints among them.

Re: You Can Fake It All
The reason the UPC was used as a jumping point for this post, is because that is the personal experience ILG had. Honestly, someone could come here as a Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, or any other group, and say the same thing, and it would still be true.
Religion can be faked.
What's so unusual about that? It just so happened that ILG's experience happened in the UPC. I've experienced "fakers" if you want to call it such in the UPC... but my experience has been even broader than the UPC, I could name a host of other organizations and groups in which I've experienced the hypocrites as well, as most likely we all can.
So, rather than getting all heated up over the "UPC" statement, why not discuss the issue at hand? Why not discuss what causes people to fake their religion? How can you tell a "faker" from the genuine? ... (instead of using the "UPC" hot button to avoid discussion of the reason for this post).

I think you guys are confused...
If I was defensive I would have been shouting the first time the UPC ever was mentioned
That's not the problem *sigh*
Let me repeat, the problem is it happens over and over and over and over and over and if you are someone that enjoys talking about everything you hated about the UPC, then you'd LOVE seeing those kinds of posts.
For the rest of us, it's old like a the mother in law that won't stop criticizing your cooking, your clothes, the way you decorate the house etc etc...day after day after day. It gets OLD
It's ok for most of you guys because you aren't in the UPC. But even non-UPCers agree it's be done and then some..it's tiresome. It's a broken record, especially for the regulars.
Others that visit infrequently might not notice
It's OLD, and it's not just this thread. It's others and even on threads that have nothing to do with the UPC or the topic did not mention the UPC, someone is always making a negative comment about the UPC...it's old...Really. That horse ain't just dead, it's pieces are lying all over the place.
That's my opinion and I am not ashamed to say it. It's beyond "getting old".
