Well... If one were to examine the text in its entirety, one would find that tattoos and cutting were closely related to idol and ancestral worship. One could argue, that a tattoo received outside( how did you put it?)the traditional definition and purposes , would not be in violation of Levitical law. Again, not arguing for tattoos, but rather arguing for scripture over cultural preferences.

I agree. I don't like tattoos, in fact I really dislike them... but I find no where in NT scripture worthy of condemning someone to hell who has one.

When I was AoG my then pastor talked me out of a tattoo. Said it was a sin to tattoo or pierce your body. I said yeah well that's Old Testament....
His son was standing there and says " so does that mean it's a sin for women to pierce their ears?" I was shocked when he answered in the affirmative! Guess he was right about something! :-)

I mean no disrespect toward my former AoG Pastor. He was a good man, just did not have a revelation of the truth.

I have 3 tattoo's and I wish I never got them. For me, being delivered out of this world, I want to look nothing like it. I know that the Lord has forgave me but I guess it's along the lines of you reap what you sow.... My God is so precious to me and being a temple for the Holy Ghost that dwells in me, ahhh, the devil loves to come remind me of my past with them...... that's ok, that loser had over 25 years to kill me, he couldn't do it.... LOL I smile, one day soon I will have a glorified body and sign of sin anywhere..... so now me and my tat's go HOPE pushing in the jails. Yeah, anyone who thinks it's ok to have tat's or get tat's is missing out on an AWESOME relationship with Jesus..... If you have them before the Holy Ghost, no worries.... but if you claim you have the Holy Ghost and want to get some I say the devil is lying to you and if I was you I would get so mad at him and go win some souls for the Lord.... yeppers.... it's what I do.... take that devil....

Although I really think Paul here was talking about a spiritual defiling, and not a physical defiling, but that point could be debated I'm sure.

He was addressing sexual immorality.

In reality many tats today ARE in worship of some other God even when the wearer may not realize it. Also, I think the origins the modern day tat craze in most cases were the "bad boy" look/rebel etc.....that is not something a child of God should want to portray.

Lastly, while it may not be a scripture, I think a principle is certainly to be found in the following example. If you were to come home and find someone spraying graffiti on your house/car etc....you would probably be real mad/upset ( I know I would....and they better hope they can out run me....cause if I caught em, I'd probably put a woopin on em before the cops got there....just joking.....sort of)

But why would you get upset? Because they had marked up something that you had bought and invested in. Our bodies are a temple of the Holy Ghost and we are NOT our OWN we have been bought with a price......so IMHO when we tat up our bodies it is similar to putting graffiti on God's property.
