The only thing which matters is what happened before this shooting. The man is NOT acting violent. Must I post the definition of violent, or can we admit this guy was NOT acting violent?
He was standing on a sidewalk, pacing around while people walked right by him. When the officers arrive, he yells at them....not in a threat to the officers, but a threat against himself! He tells the officers to shoot him.
He has a hand in his front pocket, then pulls it out in front of him. He walks up a slight incline in front of the officers. Again, no threats or action of violence against the officers. They have a clear view of his hands and the pocketknife he's holding.
He's not putting his hands behind his back or anything.
He then walks slowly down towards the officers. And before he's within a dozen yards, they open fire on him.
Then, for added spite, one of them shoots him 3 more times when he's clearly on the ground and not a threat.
We'll obviously disagree on this one. Perhaps I assume too much, in that officers should be able to assess a situation and work to deescalate before shooting to kill. I guess the protect and serve is only for the ones wearing blue.
