The passage I keep coming back to is
John 11, when the Lord raises Lazarus from the dead.
Mary tells the Lord that she believes Lazarus will raise to life on the last day, at the end. This suggests a belief in, for lack of a better term, soul sleep, in that Mary believes that Lazarus will only raise from the dead at the Resurrection prophesied to come.
But what does Jesus say to her?
I am the resurrection and the life...
Then He proceeds to raise Lazarus back to life millennia before the End.
This seems to indicate that the Lord may "quicken" whomsoever He will, just as He said, and can raise from the dead anyone at any time, whether in their mortal bodies, or in the soul, to be taken to heaven immediately.
I'm still not sold out yet, in either direction, but this is where I've been gravitating...
