Re: Apostolic But Not Believing Jesus is The Fathe

Job 13:3 Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.

Genesis 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.

Re: Apostolic But Not Believing Jesus is The Fathe

The statement "God died" should not be viewed as a deep theological statement. It simply means that the one who died for us is also our God.

As for not saying God died because there is no verse that actually states God died, in ecactly those words, keep in mind there is no verse that actually says "God loves you" either. The point being that certain statements can be acceptable if they accurately reflect what the Bible says.

It's a necessary inference:

If Jesus is God, and if he died, then God died. The "how" can be debated. The fact, however, cannot be denied without denying the fundamental basis of communication, the meaning of language, or the very ideas of truth and validity.

imo

RC Sproul on the subject:

I notice he gives a jab at Patripassianism reiterating the famous centuries-old slander... but anyway...

1 John 3:16 says God laid down his life for us. Obviously he did not lay down his DIVINE nature, but his HUMAN life.

In any event, as far as I am concerned, 1st John 3:16 settles it: God laid down his life for us.

I can agree with that. If God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself (II Corinthians 5:9), in Christ... He died for us.

I like what one fellow minister said. Everything about God that could die on the cross, did die.

Leave it at that.

What is meant by immutable mean, anyways?

Does it mean that God never changes his mind? Would it mean that God could not become a man? Or does is mean that his character is unchanging?
