If men were truly called into the ministry as Jesus described it - having a servant mind and heart - there is no doubt in my mind that the numbers of those signing up to be "ministers" would sharply decline. The problem is, the "perks" that are now common in all church groups for those in leadership prevent (for the most part, but not all) true servant ministering leadership. We see people with very little faith in the ministry, because they are not trusting the Lord, but are busy building their little kingdoms with all the perks that go with it.
If we truly want to follow the example of Jesus and his disciples, and the leadership in the NT churches, let us look at their lives and see what servant leadership meant to them. For most of them, the end result meant death - death first to self, and then death at the hands of men.
Can you imagine any bible school today advertising - come to our school so we can train you in death to self, and how to dare to be martyr?
Hmm.
