Re: Keeping the Sabbath was only for Israelites/Je
The Law...
Ex 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:
11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.
How to keep the Law....
EXODUS 31:15
15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the Sabbath of rest, holy to Yahweh: whoever does any work in the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.
Consequences of not keeping the Law...
NUMBERS 15:32-36
32 And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks upon the Sabbath day.
33 And those who found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation.
34 And they put him under guard because it was not declared what should be done with him.
35 And Yahweh said to Moses, The man shall be surely put to death: all the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.
36 And all the congregation brought him outside the camp, and stoned him with stones, and he died; as Yahweh commanded Moses.
Is this what New Testament believers should be involved in?

Re: Keeping the Sabbath was only for Israelites/Je
Great point Sean!
Since death was the outcome for the Israelites who didn't keep Sabbath, where was it pointed out in the NT that the penalty of death for breathing Sabbath had changed?
James 2: 10-13
10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.
11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
James says that the breaking one law is as if the whole law had been transgressed. Then in vs. 12 he says " so speak ye, and so DO as they that shall be judged by the LAW OF LIBERTY." Obviously he is speaking of a change here that had taken place, with the law that judged transgressors to the new law of liberty in Christ Jesus.
Gal. 3:13 "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, for it is written, cursed is everyone that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. "

Re: Keeping the Sabbath was only for Israelites/Je
I knew an Apostolic type lady but she wasn't really Apostolic because she also kept the Sabbath. She wasn't all that nice after I told her that I would never believe in keeping the Sabbath like she did.

If FZ was keeping the sabbath properly, then he would not leave his property line for 24 hours, nor do any household chores.

Re: Keeping the Sabbath was only for Israelites/Je
Even Jesus and His Father combined broke the sabbath.....
16 And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.
17 But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.
John admits that Jesus broke the sabbath here!(its not what the Jews said about Jesus, its what JOHN said about Jesus)

Well, some believe Sabbath has "changed"... now all they have to do is rest. Some believe you must keep all the laws that are still possible to keep today. Some fall somewhere in between. The Messianic groups of people are about as splintered as the OPs as to which OT laws are to be kept, and how, when so much of our culture has changed from the OT.
Many Messianics believe that since there is no specific teaching in the NT as to exactly "how" to keep the Sabbath under the New Covenant (like how Jesus changed it, but it is still in effect is not at all clear) they just keep the rest part (even though many will ignore the "thou shalt WORK SIX DAYS lol)
It is very clear through Paul's writings that the Gentiles were not expected to follow any of the OT Torah, except for the three specific laws mentioned in Acts 15 by the council in Jerusalem, understanding that love is the highest commandment that there is.
