Re: Standards

Nope, we go directly through Abrahams' covenant promise....Jesus Christ.(No Israel involved)

16 Now to Abraham and his seed(Jesus) were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.....
29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed(Jesus), and heirs according to the promise.

This is exactly why the saints are NOT under the Law.(the promise of the "seed, Jesus" was pre-law)

A standard cant be extra-biblical and have a scriptural foundation can it?

Really? I thought the purpose of standards was to set people apart from the world.

I've heard that one many times, lol... But funny how it is always the women that are "set apart" from the world, and not the men....

You forgot something…

“Even of the covenant which he made with Abraham, and of his oath unto Isaac;
And hath confirmed the same” [covenant] “to Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an
everlasting covenant.”

So the covenant to Abraham was until Jesus: to Jacob through the Law; but to Israel,
through the blessing.
What blessing, you may ask: the everlasting blessing through Jesus Christ.
Have you not understood how the man [iysh] changed Jacob’s name to Israel?
“And Jacob asked him,” [the iysh] “ and said, ‘Tell me I pray your NAME’.
And he [the iysh] said, ‘Why is it that you do ask after my NAME?’ And he
[the iysh] blessed him there.”

So we may infer that the Israeli nation is of Jacob; but the remnant, is of Israel.

very nice--don't hear "iysh" kicked around much here. I don't really know how to search the term; would you happen to know the first occurrence of it in Scripture? Is Adam iysh? ty

Many standards were developed by men walking in the Spirit. There are a lot of different doctrines developed by people supposedly walking in the Spirit. Does God tell one person one thing and another something else or are we probably sometimes not really hearing from God. You have to stand for something or you'll fall for anything (that didn't come out of the Bible).

We take our doctrines personally. If some one disagrees with me it shouldn't offend me and cause me to hate them. I may even feel like someone is a sinner, but as long as I am respectful to them then my opinion shouldn't cause us to hate one another. Agree to disagree. We don't have to fellowship with people we feel live in false doctrine, but we can still be courteous to them.

There are some professing Christians who I hesitate to call brother. I don't mean any offense, but doctrine will always divide. We must be sure of the doctrines we adhere to. I wasn't disagreeing with the post about walking in the Spirit, but only that at some point we all will hold to certain codes of conduct we feel is Spirit led.
