btw ... many are already paying taxes ... consumer taxes ... and many have tax id numbers ... would you deport all of them ... do you have any idea what that would do to our economy ....

I would be in favor of phasing all illegals into a legal status (of course violent criminals should be sent back as we discover them.)
BUT only IF......
We spent about as much as we did in Iraq on border security that stops illegal immigration cold. Our borders are open to suicide bombers and that is a shame.

I'm not scared at all. I think it is irresponsible to allow this. Why do you want to reward those who ignore the law? Citizenship is a privilege here.
Trouble is, a lot of illegal immigrants are here illegally because of monetary reasons alone. They have no intention of ever applying for citizenship. They just want all of the benefits without doing their part to help the tax base.

Wrong ... those that want to qualify for an amnesty know that they should paying income taxes ... millions are paying them ... w/ tax id numbers provided by the gov't .... they have done so as to prove their good faith for a pending amnesty.
They are your infrastructure ... they build your roads ...

Not if they're supporting it with taxes.

So a pattern of intentional law breaking doesn't concern you?
What if it were all Islamaic terrorists? Would you think THEY had a right to live here illegally?

They can get an ITIN number (individual taxpayer identification number)It does not allow then to work or recieve income earned credit (IEC), only to pay federal taxes.
You don't even know your own laws ... PP

This issue is older than Islamic terrorism ... the extremists that hate hispanics have been ranting over this issue way before 9/11....
of course the reality is that we need to secure our borders ... but an amnesty only makes sense to a tax system and social security systems that is failing.

Still criminals. We have no idea what type of criminal activity illegals have been involved in because we are just too nice to ask.

Did we not do the amnesty thing only to discover it made the problem worse? Any amnesty program is a bad one unless it is directly coupled with a border that is secure - whatever it takes we need to do it.
