okay.
I hate it when we cannot have an exchange absent of vitriol and insults.

Who said they were the same as Islamic terrorists? My point is that you want different applications of the law based on race. That is wrong. The law should be applied equally. It shouldn't matter what motive someone has in entering the country. The same documentation should take place across the board.

We;re not going to have mass deportation because we have a government who appeases. That is the point of this thread.
The border will not be secured because we are too nice.

Reality check ... they're here ... we're not going to have a mass deportation as much as you and others rant and rave ... phase them in ... build your tax base ... and secure the border as of now. It's the only thing to do after things have gone awry.

She is enrolling in College in the fall of 08/ She has already been accepted with a full ride into a Spanish Major program. She will be an exchange student for a full semester in Costa Rica, and will also need to travel throughout Central America and Spain extensively.
I plan on going with her on some of the trips.
Her plan is to teach Spanish in a High School setting. I think God may have other ideas. Missions.

In the four hours I spent in Costa Rica, it seemed like everybody and their uncle spoke English. That was in the airport, though. I hear English is pretty common in the larger cities, though. I, personally, would not want to learn Spanish in that environment. I'm a sink or swim kinda guy

Would you recommend Spain or Puerto Rico ? Those are her other options. The thing is, she will need to travel a lot to really nail the finer details of the language. She is entering her fourth year of Spanish now. By the time she finishes College, she will have received eight years of instruction. I'm told none of that can do what a season of cultural immersion can.

In order of preference (for me):
Costa Rica - given your three choices, I'd stick with this
Spain - much more expensive, the Spanish is quite different, although she'd get over that quickly
Puerto Rico - and I thought there was a lot of English in Costa Rica! Maybe Dan can weigh in on this one.
I don't know the particulars of your situation, but I'm sure your daughter will find that more opportunities open up as she proceeds through her degree. She doesn't HAVE to stick with the recommended Spanish places that everyone goes to. I was the first from my university to go to Chile, and I learned much more Spanish that those who came from other universities who tended to stick together and speak English all the time. I probably spoke less than 12 clock hrs of English in six months while I was there. Sorry to hijack your thread

Didn't the apostles break the law by escaping prison and wasn't the Holy Spirit an accomplice?

Don't apologize. I enjoy the conversation. I think I made Daniel mad though.
I guess I'm confused. You learned Spanish in College? I thought you were Hispanic? I am so clueless sometimes it's silly.
Her language professor recommended she travel as much as possible. He also said that Costa Rica was the safest place she could go to learn. That really appealed to this father.
I just want God's will for her. I already cry just thinking about her leaving. She is a certified brainiac. In fifth grade her proficiencies were at a second year college level in every area but math.
She will enter her freshman year with 23 college credits already racked up through advanced placement.
