Star Wars: The Force Awakens

First, let me say that I am not anti-entertainment, anti-movies, anti-movie theaters, or anti-Star Wars. I enjoy being entertained, watch movies occasionally, even at movie theaters, rarely, and have seen all the Star Wars many times, and consider myself a fan.

But something about this one has me concerned. It's not the movie itself. It's the way so many are obsessing over it. Even Apostolic believers I know are entrenched and have been chomping at the bit for this movie to come out.

Maybe I am over-reacting, but I fear this film has helped to cause believers in Christ to desire a little more escapism into the realm of fiction and fantasy, something too many believers already enjoy.

Maybe it's just a harmless flick, made for popcorn and a date night? But I feel an undercurrent in this. It's as if it' somehow as important to people as the Second Coming (an exaggeration, I know!).

What are your thoughts?

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

The thing is, I work at Walmart, in the toy department, and I see the way toy makers suck people in, beginning with children.

There is a line of toys called Imaginext by Fisher Price:

http://www.fisher-price.com/en_US/br...ext/index.html

They create all sorts of child friendly, fun looking toys based on commercially licensed products, like DC Superheroes, for example.

They are super appealing to kids, and sell well. But, that's the hook. The 4-5 year old is indoctrinated early, and then graduated to the next level of toys. When he or she is a teen, then the next, and the next, and pretty soon, you've been obsessed with a character since before you could tie your shoes, and before you know it, you're Lot's wife having a hard time walking away from your entertainment should the Lord ever ask you to walk away from it.

I see this with Star Wars the most. With Star Wars, Playskool has the rights:

Maybe I'm being super-spiritual, but I think there is something evil about all this.

My wife's aunt was saying the same thing to us today. She is in her seventies, a lifelong apostolic, who just shakes her head at all the fads and hysteria in the secular world. Having grown up apostolic myself, we never went to movies so I did not get the appeal of it.

Star wars is as demonic as it can get, next to the twilight series.

Aaron, the world is looking for a hero to replace the True Hero of mankind. Hollywood is presenting heroes' daily to get our minds off of Jesus, and onto men.

Even if they are fictitious men.

I think the passion was the best "Hero" movie, because the True Hero was the star.

I buy fun educational toys for my grandchildren and let his parents buy the other stuff. They play with my toys the most. Who is going to play with an action figure, when you can build and play with a Lego tree house?

Over reaction. Its not an obsession but excitement. For many of us, this is the long awaited sequel

For many kids this is like Halloween and going to Disneyland all rolled into one. I went to see the movie today and saw little kids dressed up. They were very excited

This is just another source of entertainment for us Americans. As long as it does not replace or interfere with our devotion to God, its no big deal to me
