Jesus paid the price of sin evoked over humanity from the garden of Eden. We don't look to the law of Moses to lead us, but instead we allow the Spirit of God to lead us personally. Righteousness has always been a matter of the heart. It can not be regulated, but it is between a person and God.
Secular laws are always being reinterpreted and revised in order to fit the law breaker. The defense attorney will try and throw a different slant on the law in order to get the defendant of the hook. We are not to view God's word as how it can best fit us, but instead how can we live our lives to best fit God. We will have different interpretations on things, but what is our motivations and influences for the way we interpret scripture. I think that is going to make all the difference to rightly divide the word of truth.
