Re: Is this a sin?

Here is a link on who really buy lottery tickets.

http://latino.foxnews.com/latino/mon...record-amount/

The more critical Puerto Rico's economic crisis becomes, the more Puerto Ricans try to strike it rich by winning the Powerball lottery jackpot.

The lottery preys upon the poor, foolish and desperate. Wise people look at the odds, realize that it is a snowballs chance in .... Texas, and don't play.

No more of a sin then spending the money on a bottle of pop. The sin would be if it turns into greed. I have never once played it personally.

Re: Is this a sin?

Why else does anyone play the lottery? Of course there are many greedy who don't play the lottery, but for those playing it is to win a jackpot of money at the expense of many others loss and some of them are significant losers. I would like to see some statistical data on the outcome of those few who actually do win and learn of their financial status some years later. It would probably be interesting knowledge.

Comparing Lottery ticket buying to buying a can of carbonated beverage?... wow... now I've seen everything.

Re: Is this a sin?

I wonder how many pastors would hold the "to Holy to play the Lottery" Lottery is a sin" stance

IF, someone in their church WON the lottery and wanted to donate 10% ???

Mike's words make plain sense.

But, does anyone have book, chapter and verse for Lotto being against God?

Re: Is this a sin?

If there was would it make a difference? I am going to out on limb here to say that for the vast majority that gamble, it would not matter if the Bible addressed the subject specifically. I have seen gambling become an addiction in many lives. I would not pretend to make a theological case, but that is why at the beginning of this thread I would instead try to appeal to a person's logic. In the end each will answer for the things they have done in their life. I don't think we can contend with God in the judgement that, "well the scripture doesn't say". Does not the Spirit not lead and guide?

Although, I cannot give a solid case in scripture to make the lotto a sin. I can teach principles of stewardship and warn against the pitfalls of gambling. Each will have to answer for their self.

So, I should preach against something because some people have problems controlling themselves? Yes the Spirit does lead and guide, but it would be nice for someone to point out the verses that say that a lottery is against God.
