I just have some bizarre news that I want to share with you all. It is a long story that you won't fully appreciate since you are not from my hometown but I want to share it anyways!! Lol!!! I'll try to cut it down as much as possible.

My mom has never known her biological father. He and my grandma were only married for a VERY short amount of time, they were fresh outta high school and my gma got pregnant so they got married and then while she was pregnant he left her for a 14 year old!!!!!!! They ended up getting married and having 3 children together, but he never came back to my grandma or ever had anything to do with my mom. My grandma got married very shortly after that to who I have always know as my grandpa and my mom has always known him as dad and he was the one of the GREATEST men you would ever know!!! I really wish it was his blood that is flowing through our veins because he was a wonderful man!! ANyways, my grandma told my mom about her real dad when she was 12 but neither one ever pursued finding him - he was a loser - and then about 5 years ago he died of cancer - that was curable but he didn't want cured - he was living homeless out in Nevada. So, then my mom sat me and my sister down and told us about it. We were very shocked!!! I guess over the years she had met her 1 sister and 2 brothers that were his, I didn't know that either until yesterday.

So, here is the crazy part. Yesterday my mom ran into the sister at her work and they sat and talked for a long time and she was telling my mom that they have yet another sister from another affair he had and told her who she was, and she is black - which is no big deal - but she is the mother of 2 VERY WELL KNOWN boys in our town who play for big name colleges and one of them is training right now for the NBA and has until June 18th to make a decision as whether to stay in college for another year and graduate or go ahead into the NBA full time. But the even Crazier part is that my husband has always been very good friends with boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He hung out with them in school and still keeps in contact with them!!!!! So, now we are going to try and get together and share this CRAZY news!!!! The one that maybe going into the NBA is Dominic James, he plays for Marquette right now.

Anyways, I know this means nothing to you all but it is exciting to learn about family you never knew you had and to know who they are maybe get to start family relationships with them. We never has aunts or uncles or 1st cousins growing up and I always wished we did, well, we do and now we finally may get to meet all of them!!

It's a very small work isn't it...oh I do appreciate your story...one day I will tell my story of my daughter and I....who I gave up for adoption...this also goes to show how God can make good out of those things that others might not see! He does have a plan...He always has a plan for everyone, but those that seek Him and hear Him find out what that plan is and are blessed by it.

I hope that made sense...I am still half asleep!

I agree!! That is what I try to tell my grandma, she doesn't like to talk about the whole situation, she says she tries to forget about it but those skeletons keep popping up!! The way I look at it is - yes it was a bad time for her and bad memeories but if it never would have happened my mother wouldn't be here and neither would all of us kids and grandkids!!!! So, something good came out of a horrible situation for her.

I would love to hear your story!

Sis TS, PLEASE tell your story. As the mom of 2 adopted boys who are getting to the ages now when there is the possibility (very likely possibility for one of my boys especially) that they will want to meet their birth parents. I am always interested in hearing other's experiences. Hopefully in doing so, I might be able to be better prepared when the time comes - and maybe even able to help my boys prepare??

being from the south, I hear a lot about how my family tree doesnt "fork" meaning it has no "branches" as we are all apparently related.

It's just one straight tree

Being the genealogist in our family, I can tell you this - we're not as far apart as some folks think. It's amazing how few generations you have to go back before you start finding places where our ancestors connected. My guess would be that if we knew both your ancestry and mine, by the time we would get back to the late 1600's or early 1700's, we would find that we had family who either intermarried or lived in the same town, or fought in the same regiment or something.
