The meal ended up costing about $1,600!!!!! I thought Mrs. Pianoman was going to croke!!

It was at The Palm in Nashville where I was must talked into trying crab cakes as an appetizer. As a rule I don't eat hardly any seafood but I decided to try it and naturally loved it.
Later found out the crab cake appetizers are something like $33.00 for just two or three. Sure are good though!!
I have eaten great steaks at The Palm many times but it has only been over the last year that they finally got to where they could actually serve a cup of coffee hot. I can't stand luke warm coffee so after the second or third visit of terrible after dinner coffee I always make it a point to tell the waiter that I want the coffee fresh and HOT.

I think by almost any person's measure of moderation $400.00 for an entree is excessive.
Especially for a minister who is supposed to be a steward of God's money. (I know we all are but especially a minister who is supposed to lead by example)
I don't begrudge preachers good meals, nice cars, nice homes, etc but I do expect moderation and good judgement from them.

*sigh*
I can't say I would spend the same amount of money, BUT, once a minister is paid his salary, I think its his business how he spends it. If he wants to buy 100 lbs. of bubble gum and chew it all week instead of eating, who cares?
I really don't get why we need to analyze and critique every little thing a minister does. And SOME of you are straining at gnats and swallowing camels. (That is, if you were to list the excessive, unnecessary purchases you've probably made.)
But then again...I suppose ya'll NEED your flat screens, 4-wheelers, huntin' equipment, designer clothes, huntin' dawgs, new cars instead of used, ETC ETC.
Pot, meet the kettles.

I agree totally.
I just wonder is anyone is brought up with manners anymore? Or know how to show proper discretion when you are someone's guest?
This isn't rocket science but if you want to be invited back somewhere wouldn't you want to be on your best behavior? One shouldn't assume to take liberty with someones wallet minister or not.
Perhaps I am getting old and manner are irrelevant anymore!

It wasnt taken out of his salary, he was the dinner guest at a resturant where someone else was footing the bill.
it really doesnt matter whether he is a minister or not, for anyone to do this it is wrong.

It was the host pastor that had the $400 entree, not the visiting minister. It was the visitiing minister that was shocked.

You can have nice things and no nice things in moderation. I don't think $400 for one entree of food is moderation by any standard.

I understood it to be the host pastor as clarified later in the thread.

Jeannie,
Please see Thad's post above trying to clarify. It WAS the hos pastor who ordered the entree and the visiting minister who was shocked.
