The witch of Endor – one possible way to look at psychiatry and meds.
The prophet, Samuel, said to Saul, "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king...for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel" (
1st Samuel 15:23-26)... Saul was a rebel; i.e., he had to do everything his way instead of Gods...
Because Saul rejected God, he consulted with a witch who lived in Endor (
1st Samuel 28:7)... Today, this would be likened to psychics, tarots, horoscopes, astrology, and psychiatrists... We read in
2nd Corinthians 10:5, "Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."..
Saul committed a wicked sin by seeking guidance from an ungodly source, like witchcraft, sorcery. We can see by the definition of the word pharmakeia below that drugs can be related to sorcery.
