Careful, you might get a fly in there!
Glycogen is how the body stores glucose, a sugar (carbohydrate). Glucose is the primary fuel for cellular processes. Adipose (fat) is a longer term emergency backup storage for energy when glycogen stores are nearing depletion
So, the statement that fat is the body's primary energy source is incorrect.

Re: I Want To Get Fitter!
The body will not burn fat unless there is a caloric deficit. Carbs are the primary fuel source for energy used by cells, especially muscle. Fat is a macronutrient used for neurological development (the brain is pretty much fat), and is a high energy food source. Stored fat, however, is just that - STORAGE for famine relief. The body does not immediately start using adipose tissue for energy when physical activity takes place. Rather, it used free glucose and glycogen stores. If exercise activity continues beyond the available glycogen and glucose, then several things happen. Protein is broken down for energy, and fat stores are tapped.
This is why a low protein diet with a high exercise regimen results in not only fat loss but muscle loss as well.

Re: I Want To Get Fitter!
The fat vs sugar debate rages on.. Its not new. I believe in no simple sugars a few complex carbs some fats and high protein. Plus fat burns better!

Do you know the body burns free glucose first? Because its there. If its not there it will burn fat. Fat is a better energy source.

Re: I Want To Get Fitter!
I thought that fat was a slow burning fuel, and if you kept your heart rate below a certain level you would burn fat, but if you increased your intensity you would burn glucose, and then fat.
found this as confirmation
While changing nutritional strategies can lead to a switch in your main fuel source, you will always burn both carbs and fat during exercise. One of the main factors, aside from diet, that influences the ratio of fat burning to carb burning is exercise intensity. At low intensities your body will turn to fat for energy, but as you start to train harder, it will switch to burning more glycogen, notes Dr. Edward Coyle of the Gatorade Sports Science Institute.

Does it work for you? That's what matters.
I do best on high protein, high carbs, high fat, high exercise, heavy weights, and boxing.
If I slow down and the fat stores build up, I can fast for a couple days and I'm back where I left off.
Best diet? Meat and potatoes, milk, veggies and fruits, tempered with lots of high energy activity like weights, calisthenics, sprints, jump rope, heavy bag work, sparring/wrestling or swimming or football or soccer, etc etc etc.
Golf doesn't count.

You do know that your brain is 60 % fat.
