I'm not advocating the way he (the preacher in question) went about making that statement. But what did he do for a living?

Full time pastor. Years later he was really upset that only a few families were paying tithes faithfully. He told us that his family is not going to suffer, he will pastor somewhere else, there are plenty of churches that would love to have him as their pastor.

He said that when he was voted in as pastor they had the option to have a full time pastor or a part time pastor. If part time he would have a secular job. Honestly, don’t think many people were left from the original group when he took the church.

So, if his vocation was a preacher then why couldn't he buy what he needed with his money? Also, the other situation has variables we have no idea what was going on with that. But, everyone is in a give and take, also having obligations. If both parties are lacking somewhere, then someone has to be the bigger kid in the sandbox, and straighten those things out.

The old adage still rings true, you get what you pay for.

EB, if this is true then the churches that the Apostle Paul preached to, sure didn't get much for their money, did they?

I don't understand how you can say that, Paul was a missionary building churches. He is the one who told them they were supposed to support he and his ministerial team. The thing is they didn't. They were taking care of other "super" apostles. Paul teaches them about ministerial support but adds that he wasn't teaching them so they would be obligated to give an offer all of a sudden to him. He informed them that he would rather drop dead then take a dime from them now. You see, giving isn't just a sacrificial thing, it is a spiritual thing. No one needs to tell you that they guy who is teaching you is sucking on his wallet. He also doesn't have to tell you that he is eating Ramen with his family every night. Jesus instructs you in how to give, from the deepness of your soul.

Bro, the oldest coins on earth is from Asia Minor from the area of ancient Lydia Λυδία. 2800 years old which aren't actually coins, but round (almost like marbles) pieces of gold and silver. Probably used as...weight.
I am mistaken here, EB is right. The oldest shekel coin known to exist is about twenty seven hundred years old. The shekel was used long before that (about another seventeen hundred years) as money but was a certain weight of silver, gold etc.. I would like for EB and 1ofthechosen to define money according to their understanding of the word, as used thirty two times in the book of Genesis. I believe the definition of money, as used in the Bible (my version is KJV) is important but not necessarily crucial to the debate on tithes.

EB?

!ofthechosen?

Would you be so kind as to define money as used in the Bible, according to your understanding?

I understand that the Apostle Paul preached the gospel freely (without charge) so that he would not be a burden to the people that he was ministering to. It was not always the case, but it seems to be generally the case.

And I don't believe that the Apostle Paul was preaching tithing. I do believe that he was teaching that the ministry should be supported. Some people jump straight to tithing, as though it's the only way to support the ministry. It is not.
