I admit ignorance about the "cage free" and "free range" claims years ago. I started buying eggs labeled with those terms thinking it meant these chickens were on farms and living in the open range.
I was surprised to find out that "cage free" only means they're not in cages, but still crowded in large pens with hundreds and thousands of other chickens; and that "free range" only means that the door to the cage must be open at least, IIRC, 5 minutes a day or so.
Stupid, misleading, dishonest and plain wrong.
